We have obtained multiple international environmental certifications, including ISO 14001, forest certifications such as FSC® and PEFC Chain of Custody, and ISCC PLUS (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification). These certifications play a vital role in ensuring supply chain transparency in line with the disclosure standards of GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) and ISSB (International Sustainability Standards Board) and serve as essential mechanisms for supporting sustainable business operations. For further details on these certifications, please refer to the ESG Data Book.

ISO14001
ISO 14001 is an international standard that sets out a framework for environmentally responsible business operations.
By obtaining certification, a company’s initiatives toward environmental conservation are evaluated by third parties, enabling it to demonstrate a high level of credibility to business partners and society.
We have established an environmental management system (EMS) based on ISO 14001, aiming to achieve both sustainable corporate growth and a reduction in environmental impact. While this certification has also been widely obtained at our European sites, the information presented below pertains to our sites in Japan.
Certificate number.: JP18/071544
Scope of application: Kokusai Pulp & Paper Head Office; Kansai Branch Office; Chubu Branch Office; Kyushu Branch Office; Kita Nihon Branch Sendai Sales Dept.; Kita Nihon Branch Sapporo Sales Dept.
Forest Certification
Chain of Custody (CoC) certification under forest certification is a system that verifies that wood and paper products produced from certified forests are properly managed without mixing with non certified materials at any stage of the supply chain. Rules are established to ensure the separate management of certified and non certified materials throughout each process, including production, processing, distribution, and sales, and companies are required to meet strict standards for traceability, record keeping, and storage practices. As a result, third parties assure that the forest certification labels affixed to final products genuinely indicate that the raw materials are sourced from sustainably managed forests. This certification is regarded as an essential standard in the pulp and paper industry. Similar to ISO 14001, forest certification has also been widely obtained at our overseas sites; however, the information presented below pertains to our sites in Japan.

ISCC PLUS
ISCC PLUS (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) is an international certification scheme that verifies the environmental and social sustainability of raw materials such as biomass, waste, and recycled materials across the entire supply chain.
It assesses whether criteria related to greenhouse gas emission reductions, the prevention of deforestation, and consideration for social responsibility are met throughout all stages of the supply chain, from raw material sourcing to manufacturing and distribution, and certifies the use of sustainable materials through mechanisms such as the mass balance approach. ISCC PLUS certification is widely used across a broad range of industries, including packaging materials, chemicals, and plastic products.

ISO45001
ISO 45001 is an international standard that defines the framework organizations should establish to protect the safety and health of workers, with the aim of preventing occupational accidents and work‑related health issues. Organizations are required to build a systematic process to identify workplace hazards, assess risks, and plan, implement, and continuously improve appropriate control measures. Emphasizing employee participation and effective communication, fostering a strong safety culture within the organization is also a key element of the standard. We have obtained ISO 45001 certification at our European sites.
ISO9001
ISO 9001 is an international standard for quality management systems (QMS) that defines the framework for organizations to consistently provide high‑quality products and services.
It aims to enhance customer satisfaction by accurately identifying customer needs, continuously improving business processes, and reducing variability in quality.
Organizations are required to establish systems covering areas such as organizational responsibilities, document control, the assessment of risks and opportunities, process standardization, and internal audits, and to operate the PDCA cycle effectively.
As third‑party certification objectively demonstrates an organization’s commitment to quality, ISO 9001 has been widely adopted worldwide across both manufacturing and service industries. We have obtained ISO 9001 certification at our European sites.
