KPP Group Basic Policy on Occupational Safety, Health and Wellness

Guided by this principle, the KPP Group is committed to safeguarding workplace safety and health, promoting the development of a pleasant and productive work environment across the entire Group.

 

Scope of Application

This policy applies to all workers involved in the business activities of the KPP Group, including employees, temporary staff, contractors, subcontractors, and independent business operators.

 

Compliance with Laws and Regulations

We strictly comply with all applicable laws and regulations related to occupational safety, health, and wellness in each country and region where we operate.

Metrics and Targets

From the Fourth Medium-Term Business Plan, the Group has adopted LTIFR (Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate) as a common indicator across the entire Group and has set a target of achieving a year-on-year reduction. The activity policies (annual targets) are determined individually by each Group company based on the basic policy.

The targets for fiscal year 2025 and results of Kokusai Pulp & Paper are shown below. In addition, Kokusai Pulp & Paper have set a target of zero lost-time injuries not only for a single fiscal year but as an ongoing objective to be maintained in subsequent years.
The lost-time injury severity rate for the past three years is shown in the table below. The severity rate over the most recent three years has remained below 0.02, which is the level for the wholesale industry (codes 50–55) reported in the 2023 Survey on Industrial Accidents. In addition, there have been no fatal accidents involving employees over the past three years.

  • Ensure strict overtime management by managers and implement initiatives to reduce excessive working hours
  • Require all employees with 10 or more days of paid leave to take at least 5 days
  • Achieve a paid leave utilization rate of 70% or higher
  • Promote understanding and support for paternity leave among male employees
  • Analyze and utilize yearly company stress check results
  • Achieve 100% participation in yearly in-house health checkups

Specific Initiatives

・Industrial Safety and Health Commission
The Company has established the Occupational Safety and Health Committee. Based on the KPP Group Charter and the KPP Group Basic Policy on Occupational Safety and Health formulated in 2025, the Company continues to enhance the work environment in which everyone can work safely and securely. The Occupational Safety and Health Committee meets twice a year to discuss progress on action plans and key safety KPIs.
The ESG Committee, of which the Chairman and Representative Director serves as CEO, receives reports from the Industrial Safety and Health Committee twice a year, provides guidance, advice, and supervision, and reports the progress of sustainability issues to the Board of Directors.


・Management of health and safety
A health and safety management system has been established, and a health and safety committee member has been selected. A health and safety committee meeting is held regularly once a month, attended by industrial physicians and public health nurses. The Safety and Health Committee also checks the status of domestic affiliates and promotes safety and health activities.

・Promoting the health of workers
We conduct annual health examinations for all employees so that they can continue to work in good physical and mental health. We also conduct checkups for lifestyle-related diseases, and provide specific health guidance based on the checkup results. Based on the results of employees' medical examinations, industrial physicians and public health nurses provide individual guidance and meetings to help employees prevent disease.

・Health and safety risk assessment
The Company has established a Risk Management Committee to maintain and improve the Group's risk management system. Health and safety are also subject to risk assessment. The Risk Management Committee identifies and assesses important risks for Group management, determines priority response measures, monitors the implementation status of priority response measures on a regular basis, and reports the results to the Board of Directors through the ESG Committee.
